Best In Nature

Best in Nature met with US Congressman Gil Cisneros of California's 31st District

On July 9, 2026, Best in Nature employees visited the district office of Congressman Gil Cisneros to discuss the evolving regulatory environment for dietary supplements. Congressman Cisneros represents California’s 31st district and sits on the House Committee on Small Business and the Armed Services Committee.

In recent years, several states have moved toward creating their own regulatory frameworks for dietary supplements. These efforts can lead to restrictions such as bans on specific ingredients or age-based purchasing requirements that go beyond existing FDA guidelines.

This results in a patchwork of different regulations with three main problems.

  1. Companies may face increased difficulty complying with different rules across multiple states.

  2. Consumers may experience inconsistent access to products depending on where they live.

  3. Businesses may face confusion over whether they are primarily subject to FDA authority or separate state-level standards.

We raised these concerns with Congressman Cisneros and voiced our support for H.R. 7366, which would reinforce uniform standards for dietary supplement regulation across the United States under the authority of the FDA.

This legislation would help ensure that the FDA’s authority, as established under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994, remains the national standard. The FDA already has broad authority to regulate dietary supplement companies, including facility registration requirements, inspections, audits, label review, sample collection, and access to manufacturing information.

We would like to thank Congressman Cisneros and his office for their time in hearing our thoughts.
