On August 8th, 2023, a devastating wildfire broke out on the Island of Maui in Hawaii that has burned through thousands of acres of land destroying thousands of homes. To date, over 100 people have been confirmed to have died in the fires with nearly 1,100 people still missing.
The cost to rebuild has been estimated to be $5.52 billion.
At the time of this writing, numerous volunteers from Hawaii and elsewhere are on Maui aiding in the relief effort and figuring out how to move forward.
How You Can Help
We’ve chosen to do what we can by contributing to the Hawaii Community Foundation. They’ve been in operation since 1916 and their Maui Strong fund has already issued over $5 Million in grants. You can learn more about and contribute to the Maui Strong Fund Here.
This is one option of many. Other organizations, new and old, are marshaling resources to help people get back on their feet and rebuild Maui. We encourage those who can to contribute even a small amount to the effort.
Additionally, Hands On Maui, which is normally a resource to find volunteers for community activities, is helping to organize volunteer efforts for the Maui wildfires. Visit their website here.
